Estradiol was first approved as Estrace on 1982-01-01. It is used to treat breast neoplasms, hot flashes, hypogonadism, menorrhagia, and premature menopause amongst others in the USA. It has been approved in Europe to treat contraception and leiomyoma. It is known to target estrogen receptor beta, nuclear receptor subfamily 1 group I member 2, estrogen receptor, Calcium-activated potassium channel subunit alpha-1; calcium-activated potassium channel subunit alpha-1, and G-protein coupled estrogen receptor 1.
